Day One – You will be met at the Airport by a Mariposa Jungle Lodge representative, who will drive you to the Lodge. An optional drive around Belize City, visit to the Burrell Boom Baboon Sanctuary or Belize Zoo is possible for a nominal surcharge, depending on arrival time and fatigue level. A complimentary beverage and dinner will be ready when you reach the Lodge.

Day Two – Visit Caracol, the largest known Mayan archaeological site in Belize, with five plazas excavated under the high jungle canopy and the opportunity to climb 140’ Caana. After a sumptuous picnic lunch, you will tour the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest with stops at the Rio Frio Cave (a user-friendly ‘walk-through-cave) and the Rio On Pools, where you’ll have the option of enjoying a refreshing swim.

Day Three – Jungle Horseback Ride with visits to an underground cave with Mayan relics and a stop for picnic lunch and optional swim at Big Rock Falls.

Day Four - “Village Culture Tour” – This tour is designed to offer the visitor an intimate exposure to life in two Cayo villages, where the typical breadwinner earns less than US$2/hour. You’ll learn about the costs of living, health care, the education system, and a typical budget. You’ll see the village shops, churches, schools, police station and post office. The highlight of the experience is a visit to four homes of a multi-generational family where you will learn about daily food preparation, try your hands at tortilla making, and enjoy a typical home-made Belizean lunch. This is a unique opportunity for kids to see how much of the rest of the world lives.

Day Five – This morning you’ll visit Barton Creek Cave. Your guide will provide headlights and safety gear and even paddle your canoe through this awesome, cathedral-like cave and former Mayan ceremonial site. Before returning to the Lodge for lunch, you’ll stop at Green Hills Butterfly Farm for an informative lecture on butterfly breeding and the opportunity to mingle with and take photographs of myriad butterflies in a huge cage.

Day Six – Depart for Airport or next destination. Depending on your departure or transfer time, a visit to the Burrell Boom Baboon Sanctuary or Belize Zoo, or an optional drive around Belize City, is possible for a nominal surcharge.

PLEASE NOTE: You may select any of the tours listed under “Our Excursions” on the School’s Out Special. The “Suggested Itinerary” is just that – a suggestion. Other options available include: river canoeing, cave exploration, cave tubing, zip lining, and jungle night hiking, depending on your level of physical fitness and desire for adventure. Consider the “Machete Whack.” Nominal surcharges may apply, depending on the totality of your selections.
